Court Square Dentistry
A Great Dentist

Meet the Team at Court Square Dentistry

Starting in September of 2013, Court Square Dentistry began making its mark on the smiles of Long Island City.

Dr. Mapes opened his first practice, Williamsburg Smile Design, in 2011. It was an instant hit in north Williamsburg, and only a year and half later, he found himself planning practice number two. It became clear that the perfect location for his next office was in the nearby Queens neighborhood of Long Island City.

A true neighborhood dentist

Not only does Dr. Mapes work in the neighborhood, but he also calls it home. Shortly prior to opening the practice, he packed up and moved from Williamsburg to a new home in Long Island City. He truly wishes to chip in and contribute his part in helping to build this up-and-coming neighborhood into the next big thing in New York City.

Amenities

Our office has amazing perks. We have Netflix in every room and we can even play your favorite movie or show on ceiling mounted monitors during treatment. We offer coffee and hot chocolate and warm/cold towel service depending on the season. Fresh scents and aromatics are put into the air, because the last thing anyone wants to smell is that old dental office aroma. If you can think of anything we can do to improve your experience, let us know. We aim to please at Court Square Dentistry!

Dr. Ian Mapes

Owner and Lead Dentist

After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan with high honors, Dr. Mapes attended the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. As a cum laude graduate, Dr. Mapes furthered his dental expertise and honed his skills in a post-graduate residency program at Palmetto Health in Columbia, South Carolina.

Dr. Mapes received advanced training in implantology (placement of dental implants), endodontics (root canal surgery), oral surgery (extractions), IV sedation, and prosthodontics. For several years, Dr. Mapes associated alongside New York City's top dentists. He is dedicated to continuing education and has trained with some of the nation's most forward-thinking dentists in functional occlusion/smile design, as well as cosmetic orthodontics (Six Month Smiles and Invisalign).

He understands that each person has a unique personality and unique dental needs and treats each patient as such. He appreciates that from the patient’s perspective, the dentist is getting about as "up close and personal" as anyone can get. For this reason, Dr. Mapes makes it his top priority to comfort his patients and put them at ease before beginning even the simplest procedure.

Kelly Panayiotou

Hygienist

Kelly is originally from Astoria, NY. She received her training from CUNY, New York City College of Technology. She has been a hygienist at our practice for over a year now.

"I enjoy meeting patients from all walks of life and educating them on their oral/systemic health as well as teaching them a better way to care for their teeth and gums. I believe awareness and accessibility are the keys to preventing oral disease, and I try to implement them in each appointment.

"
I also love researching and reading about new studies in the dental and health community. It is always changing for the better, and I need to stay updated to give my patients the newest and best treatments.

I really appreciate the staff I work alongside. We are a team, helping one another to create the best atmosphere and experience for the patients. I couldn't ask for a better group." – Kelly

When Kelly is not at the dental office, you will find her cooking or baking. Her family carries on a tradition of having a family dinner every Sunday, and she enjoys trying out new recipes or resurrecting old family favorites.
